Default POTW Jul-04

I guess it's only appropriate that this week's POTW starts off with fireworks.

http://www.nelsoncountylife.com/2010...rgreen-7-5-10/

I photographed the fireworks up here at Wintergreen and did a couple of different things that I liked. My plan was to photograph the fireworks as they paint the night sky (nothing new), but a tip I read from an email from Photography Review said to set the White Balance to 3000 deg Kelvin (Tungsten film). I really like the colors this setting gave me. My editor wanted to see the audience watching the fireworks, so I set my aperture to f/11 at ISO 200. Lost some highlights at this setting that I later got back when I set to f/16 in close ups of the burst shots. Exposures varied from 11 sec to 54 sec (bulb setting). The trick was to second guess the pyrotechnician when opening and closing the shutter.

Other images are just candids from earlier in the day. The candid at Wintergreen Winery is classic Steve. Natural light. No flash, albeit the woman on the left is bordering on over being over exposed. This is a classic winery shot that my editor likes, people drinking wine and having a good time.

Hope you enjoy. Click on the images to expand.

I really enjoy photographing fireworks.

Best regards,
Paul

Thanks Larry and Dennis.

Yeah it was hot here too. Even up here where I live at 3,300 feet it was well into the 80's. Going to be near 100 tomorrow in the valley.

Now that fourth of July is over, I am ready for ski season.

Best regards,
Paul

Thanks everyone.

Oh how I would love to do this full time and give up my day job. I just need to figure out how to do the transition.

Best regards,
Paul

Default Wide Angle Fun

Pics with Sigma 8-16 lens

This was done matching screen exposure to flash, setup pic below. Put lamp on left to warm up that area.

Nikon D300, ISO 200, manual exposure @ 1/10 @ f/7.1, 11.5mm
